FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Generally I ask that you order your costume & pay the deposit at least a minimum of 10 weeks prior to your event. This means actually placing your order, with your deposit paid and agreement in place, 10 weeks prior to your event. There may be fabrics to source, embellishments to order - plus there may be others who have ordered before you. It all takes time and there is only one of me! Please feel free to drop me an email if you need something sooner than that, and I can let you know if it’s at all possible.

  • I prefer to do the entire costume - not everyone has a good eye for embellishments and stoning. It can get messy if you’re not experienced, very difficult to correct if you make a mistake, as well as being hard to achieve if you don’t have the right tools. If we have an agreement in place to provide a certain style, then when the garment is completed and you have ownership, I will have photos and records of what I’ve created, so anything you want to add to it, is really out of my hands and completely up to you.

  • Yes - of course - not for children, just for adults. Skating skill level has no bearing on having a costume made for you. There are plenty of adult skaters who are out there giving it a go - myself included! Competitions & performances take place across all levels, and you deserve to look great and feel great when doing what you love.

  • I source my material from retailers in Australia - generally either Adelaide or Melbourne, sometimes Sydney. Nylon lycra (spandex) is what I use as a rule for leotards as it is softer, smoother, stronger and more durable than polyester lycra. It also has good recovery 4 way stretch & wicking properties for moisture. The stretch mesh is also nylon based. There are plenty of other fabrics that can be incorporated into the design, but that is the basic. Appliques are generally sourced overseas as there is often a better range of choice. Rhinestones - sometimes from Australia, and sometimes from overseas.

  • Generally not, as the price for custom made exceeds the price of practice wear from commercial outlets. There are plenty of different practice skating wear available in commercial retail, and often people don’t want to pay the price of custom made for practice wear. I focus on making performing or competition wear as individuality comes into play at these events and creativity is essential.

  • Skating wear and dance wear have a lot of similarities. I have made dance wear in the past and I will consider making dance wear for adults if it’s for a special performance. Feel free to reach out and let me know what you’re looking for.

  • The Ready to Wear outfits are those that are created while I’m not making custom wear. These are the creations that I make just because I like to make them - or I get a particular design in my mind that has a life of it’s own. Sometimes they get sold quickly, other times they are waiting for that particular someone to come along! I make them as “one off’s” (meaning they wont be duplicated) and generally to fit Ladies size 8-9 or 10-11/12 . I make the ready to wear in these sizes as the market is larger & I’m more likely to sell them. Anything sized smaller or larger than that, the market tends to be much more selective in regard to style type - I’m sorry for this as I do try to be inclusive & it’s unfortunate I know, but I need to be able to sell the ready to wear styles that I create. Custom made is always available.

  • I use E6000 purchased wholesale in Australia. The industrial strength adhesive - crystal clear. I find this is the best glue to use as it dries quickly, you can stone at most angles, and it does not suffer when exposed to the cold. When I’m using the glue or spray paints I use a 3M mask as it’s rated for paint & chemicals, and my room is well ventilated when gluing or spray painting . The smell dissipates quickly once dry and there is no lasting odour or harmful residues.

  • No, sorry, I don’t do either custom or otherwise for children. There are so many commercially available skating outfits for kids. I prefer making the competition wear for adults.
